Texas Life Insurance Agent Gets 12 Years for 1.2 Million Dollar Insurance Fraud
filed in Insurance News, Scammers Exposed on Dec.10, 2008
Texan Brenda Buckaloo-Merchant was sentenced to 12 years in prison for embezzling more than 1.2 million dollars from Unitrin Insurance. She wrote checks from Unitrin to a fictional health insurance provider who was, in fact, he. Its a first degree felony in Texas.
I wonder how she got caught, but it seems a pretty silly way to go about it. Those big checks were going to be noticed sooner or later. However, some people think they’re untouchable and insurance is, as always, a favorite target for scammers:/
