How Can You Get Insurance With a Pre-existing Condition?
filed in Insurance Advice on Jan.02, 2009
There are some insurance options for people with pre-existing conditions. First and foremost, you need to check the group insurance you have through your employer, if you have any. If you don’t have it, check with your employer to see if there is a group you can join. You can often take advantage of periods when you can get in without a medical examination.
Are you a member of a union, a fraternal organization, a school alumni association or other organization with group health and life insurance plans? Bodies like these often have group programs you can enroll in without needing a medical exam.
As Harry Gross says about heart surgery (but this can really apply to any pre-existing condition), one shot that is often overlooked is a really well-connected broker who can submit an anonymous application to several different companies together with a complete medical report from his doctors. Often, the underwriters at company A will have different criteria than those at company B for the same health problems.
You might not get the cheapest rate, but you may find a more affordable one than you think.
