Types of Auto Insurance

Once you decide that you need to get automobile insurance, you must then decide what type of coverage that you want to have. There are many types of coverage, but I will stick to two that are usually bought together, and for the purpose of protecting a new car. Collision automobile insurance coverage and comprehensive automobile insurance coverage are usually bought together, and are fairly expensive, I wouldn’t use them for older cars.
As you might have guessed, collision auto insurance covers accidents involving a collision. This insurance will help pay for damages in this situation. This means that even if the accident is your fault, your insurance will cover it. Although if a collision occurs with another vehicle and it isn’t your fault, the other driver’s insurance will cover the damages, at least part of the way. With this policy though, whatever isn’t covered by the other person’s insurance will be covered by this type of insurance. You are also covered should you hit something and cause damage to the car.
Comprehensive auto insurance covers all aspects other than collision. For example if your car gets water damage from a flood, or is stolen, etc. your insurance will cover you.
There are many other types of policies, but I recommend some combination of the two above because you want to have full coverage. You never know when you will be in an accident. All of the planning in the world couldn’t prepare you for which type of accident that you will have. Even if you are thinking collision would be the only one, keep in mind, no one plans on hitting a tree or a pole. Accidents just happen, everywhere, to everyone, when you least expect it.
