When applying for Life Insurance, they will ask you a series of health-related questions to determine your lifestyle, your overall health, and your health in the future. If you live a have a healthy lifestyle, with minimal to no unhealthy habits, your premium will be less than someone who does maintain unhealthy habits.  For example, drinking. If you are a heavy drinker, that will most likely present more health problems in the future, so they will charge you more now.

Now, it may be a no brainer to think,  “I will just tell them I don’t drink” and get the lower premium; let me tell you why that won’t work. You will be required to have some sort of physical exam done and if they find signs of excessive drinking, or any signs at all that you have been drinking, it can be reported back to the company. They will then either raise your premium, or refuse to give you a policy. Which, if you think about it makes sense because you did in fact lie to them. It is even worse if you smoke because nicotine can stay in your system for a while and is easily tested for.

My best advise? Kick those habits and get the lowered premium. haha. I understand that isn’t possible for most people. Just be honest. take the high road on this one. You might get away with it, but the gamble is far too big. Also, if you do have habit-related problems in the future, your insurance company will probably be pretty upset with you.
